Celebrating the Joys of Summer at The Valley School

Sponsored Article

August 27, 2015
The Valley School's children have been engaged in exciting, ongoing studies and activities within the classroom this summer. Students in the Pre-K classroom explored the life cycle of butterflies as they witnessed caterpillars going through the amazing process of metamorphosis.  The study culminated in the release of the butterflies into the wild!

In addition to weekly soccer and water play, children have been engaged in a variety of exciting enrichment activities such as Art Exploration and Japanese Studies.  The summer art program provided the students with opportunities for open-ended interactions with a variety of art materials--both independently and collaboratively.

Japanese Studies students have learned a popular Japanese Children’s Song, practiced saying and writing their names in Japanese, tried their hands at Japanese calligraphy using traditional materials, and more!

Students have also enjoyed meeting many visitors from the community including one of the Park Ridge Librarians, who visited twice over the summer to share the joy of reading. Other special events included a demonstration from Mad Science, a visit from the President of the New Jersey Bee Keepers Association, interacting with the wild, amazing animals from Outragehisss Pets, yoga classes, and a visit from the Kona Ice Snow Cone truck!

The Valley School will wrap up its exciting summer program with upcoming events such as a magic show and a concert with a singing cowboy!
