OT Police Officer Kathryn Weaver Rides for Those Who Died

Mom on a Mission Series

By Angeline Sheridan May 19, 2016
A big congratulations goes to Old Tappan Police Officer Kathryn Weaver who completed her first Police Unity Tour this past Thursday, May 12. The Police Unity Tour is a four-day bike ride with over 2,000 participants that start at Ground Zero in New York and end at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC.

The experience was an emotional one for Officer Weaver, who joined the tour under the name #TeamRomito, in honor of her best friend's father Chief James Romito. Chief Romito worked for the Port Authority Police Department and was one of many officers who died on September 11, 2001.

Officer Weaver's family met her in Washington, DC and surprised her with posters made by her son's class.

Although this was her first bike tour, Officer Weaver is no stranger to charity events. Since 2011, Officer Weaver has been the lead organizer of the "Ladies in Blue Fighting in Pink" Team of current and retired female police officers who participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Officer Weaver also participated in the Tunnel to Towers 5k, a local foundation that honors the life of firefighter Stephen Siller who died on 9/11 as well as the lives of military and first responders who continue to sacrifice for their country.

When she is not organizing or training for a charity event, you can find Officer Weaver surrounded by neighborhood kids fascinated by the gadgets in her police car, organizing the next Cub Scouts activity, or chasing after her almost-three year old son. Thanks, Officer Weaver, for all you do in our community!
