Joey's Fund Charity Car Show POSTPONED Until Oct 8

September 30, 2016
The second annual Joey's Fund Classic Car Show to be held on its rain date of October 8, 2016 from 11AM to 4PM at the St. Mary's Church parking lot (20 Legion Place) in Closter due to the weather forecast.

Following the success of the inaugural Car Show last year, which raised $20,000 for St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, this year's show will be even bigger and better featuring over 150 cars vying to win trophies, a live DJ, rock wall, bounce house, face painting, food vendors, and amazing auction items from local sporting teams including NY Yankees tickets and NY Jets signed memorabilia. All are welcome to attend, and all proceeds will go to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital to help assist families with expenses associated with treating their sick child and help with costs for different forms of blood treatments for children.

Joey's Fund was founded as a 501c3 non-profit foundation by local resident Tony DeCarlo, who lost his 2 1/2 year old son Joey to leukemia in 1986. To keep the memory of his son alive, DeCarlo organized a Charity Car Show in 2015 because Joey loved cars.

The success of last year's Car Show has already had an impact on families who are struggling to meet the financial burdens of fighting cancer while undergoing treatment at the St. Joseph's Children Hospital Center for Pediatric Hematologic and Oncologic Blood Disorders:

"AJ" is a shy 2-year-old little girl with sickle cell disease. She and her mother were living in a family shelter for six months. Mom was finally able to locate an affordable apartment but could not come up with both the 1st month's rent and security deposit. Joey's Fund kindly paid the rent enabling this family to have a home of their own for the first time.

"JC" is a 6-year-old with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia from Passaic County. He finished treatment this past January and JC's mom was able to return to work to catch up on her 1st quarter tax and sewer bills. Unfortunately, JC relapsed late May so JC's mom is unable to work again. Joey's Fund has enabled JC's mom to cover her bills so they can keep her home.

"KB" is an adorable little both with leukemia, who lives with his aunt due to social issues. Unable to work to care for KB, KB's aunt struggles to pay for household bills. During the winter, his aunt starting using a wood-burning stove to keep heating costs down, but it exacerbated KB's asthma. Joey's Fund has helped pay for their heating bill to create a safer environment for KB while undergoing treatment.

"OD" is a spunky 19-year-old girl with leukemia. Due to the intensity of her treatment and complications that developed, she had to stop working, leaving her without income or health insurance. Her treatment requires a substantial number of oral chemotherapy medications and medications to manage the side effects and complications of treatment. Joey's Fund is covering the cost of her more expensive medications, enabling OD to have consistent access to live-saving medications.

Joey's Fund Classic Car Show is free for spectators. To register your car, arrive at the event by 9AM ($20) or pre-register online for $15. To make a direct donation, visit the GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/JoeysFundCharity.
