Make Every Day Earth Day

Because Our Children Are The Future

By Angeline Sheridan April 18, 2012

Since I became a mother, "green living" has become more of a way of life.  I personally believe that what children consume and what they are exposed to at an early age have a cumulative effect on them.  I also know that it is not easy to maintain a green lifestyle - oftentimes it is more costly and less convenient.  So I focus on a few priorities: buy more locally or organically grown foods, prepare homemade meals and snacks, use natural cleaning products, enjoy the outdoors, consume less stuff and donate what you don't need.  My hope is that my children will grow up learning and embracing these as well, and maybe even going above and beyond.

Macaroni Kid has a number of great ideas to celebrate Earth Day every day:
  • Check out the article on Green Tips to Celebrate Earth Day and pick just one or two things that you can incorporate in your daily routine.
  • Enjoy some Earth Day Freebies like waived entrance fees at most national parks, reusable totes, and discounts on eco-friendly products.
  • Plant some trees or give some to friends.  The Arbor Day Foundation will send you 10 free trees just by becoming a member for $10.
  • Celebrate with a homemade Garden Dirt Pie.
  • Create your own Marble Art of the Earth.
  • Turn off the TV, computer, video game, iPad, iPod, and iPhone and spend family time at some of This Week's Picks.

Have a fun-filled week!
