Free Screenings of "Bully" Documentary

Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle to Host Anti-Bullying Documentary Film at bergenPAC May 30

May 23, 2012
Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, the lead sponsor of New Jersey’s landmark Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, along with Englewood Mayor Frank Huttle III, will be hosting two public screenings of the movie “Bully,” the first feature documentary film to show how bullying affects everyone from victims, to perpetrators to silent witnesses.

The screenings will be held at the Bergen Performing Arts Center on May 30 at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.  The 12 p.m. showing is reserved for school groups throughout Bergen County while the 6 p.m. showing will be open to the public courtesy of the Assemblywoman and Mayor and generous community sponsors, including:  Hudson News Distributors, North Jersey Community Bank, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, and Garden State Equality.  The evening screening will also be followed by a panel discussion.

“Even though New Jersey now has the toughest anti-bullying law in the nation, some school districts, parents, and students still do not understand that peer bullying has horrific and life-changing consequences,” said Vainieri Huttle. “‘Bully’ showcases the harassment and intimidation the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights seeks to prevent and address.  This movie is both heartbreaking and enlightening and I hope everyone will take the time to see it.”

The film is only playing in selective theaters across the United States, none of which are in Bergen County.  Please visit the below link to view the movie trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1g9RV9OKhg

“It’s important that the families, educators, and leaders in our community have an opportunity to see this movie,” said Huttle III.  “It’s a real eye opener, especially for those who think they might not be directly affected by bullying because, in one way or another, we all are.”

Anyone wishing to reserve tickets in advance of the screenings should contact Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle's legislative office by email at aswvainierihuttle@njleg.org.
