Cookies for Kids Cancer Bake Sale A Success!

Thousands Of Dollars Raised For Pediatric Cancer Research

By Angeline Sheridan July 31, 2013
Englewood resident Marcia Lemberg and her team of volunteers and generous donors raised thousands of dollars during the Cookies for Kids Cancer Bake Sale at Englewood's Sidewalk Sale July 25 through July 27, 2013. All proceeds will go towards funding pediatric cancer research and awareness.

"It was a team effort," says Marcia, "and I had a fabulous team. If we all do a little, together we will do a lot."

Indeed, it was a tremendous team effort. A total of 45 volunteers - as young as 4 years old - baked, wrapped goodies, staffed the tent, worked the crowds, lent supplies, and helped set up and break down. Local bakeries generously donated baked goods including Carousel Cupcake, Starbucks, Butterflakes, Dale & Thomas Popcorn, Riviera Produce, Jerry's, Admiration Foods, Palisades Park Bakery, and Oliveri & Sons Baking Supplies. Shop Rite, Stop & Shop and Whole Foods donated gift cards. Classic Realty and The Dean Street Greenery donated storage space.

We’re in this fight because every child battling cancer deserves a fighting chance. We hope you too will join our efforts and be a good cookie. If you are interested in hosting your own Cookies for Kids Cancer Bake Sale, Marcia is available to help. Contact her by email or calling 201-421-1831.

About Pediatric Cancer
Pediatric cancer is the number one disease killer in the U.S. of children under the age of 18. It kills more children than asthma, AIDS, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis combined. Research funding has made a direct and measurable impact on the survival rates of pediatric cancer. Unfortunately, pediatric cancer receives a very small percentage of the National Cancer Institute’s $4.8 billion annual budget and almost no research and development dollars from pharmaceutical companies.

About Cookies for Kids' Cancer
Gretchen and Larry Witt founded Cookies for Kids' Cancer in 2008, just a few short months after the success of their first cookie sale during the holidays 2007. Their efforts have always been inspired by their son Liam who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2007 at the age of 2. Tragically, Liam came to the end of his courageous 4-year fight with cancer on January 24, 2011 at the age of 6. Though devastated by his loss, the Witts remain more determined than ever to continue the fight against pediatric cancer.
