This past weekend, my son and I were invited to review Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic at IZOD Center in East Rutherford. The performance was the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

We have seen other Disney On Ice productions, but Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic is by far the best we have seen. Feld Entertainment pulled out all the stops, paying tribute to Disney's all-time favorite characters from beloved movies like Lion KingAladdinBeauty and The BeastThe Incredibles, and Toy Story. And of course, no Disney On Ice is complete without our favorite friends Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy!

The performance by the lovely Disney Princesses and their Princes was one of my favorites. The choreography and music brought back fond memories of watching CinderellaSnow White and The Little Mermaid over and over again. Equally nostalgic was the piece on "It's A Small World," one of my favorite rides at Disney's Magic Kingdom when I was a little girl.

An unexpected favorite was the Mulan act: seeing a giant Chinese dragon on ice was a nice touch, especially with the Chinese New Year coming up. My son is only 4 so he has a lot of movies to catch up on. But he had his eyes glued to the ice rink throughout the whole hour and a half show (with intermission). He particularly loved the Toy Story act, complete with a marching performance by the Army men.

If there is only one Disney On Ice show you see, Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic is it. The skating was beautiful and exciting, the song selections were excellent, and the lighting and set complemented each act. Here's to another 100 years of Disney magic!

Macaroni Tips:

  • The show gets very loud and dark at certain times, which may scare kids under 3 and those who are sensitive to loud noises.
  • Equally scary for young ones are possibly the Finding Nemo act, featuring the great white shark Bruce and the Beauty and The Beast act where the Beast and Gaston duke it out. Prep your kiddies or grab a fancy Disney snowcone or popcorn if you think they may not enjoy these parts of the show.
  • The show is about an hour and half long with intermission. Plan bathroom breaks accordingly.

You can catch Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic at Prudential Center January 15-January 20, 2014. To discover more about Disney On Ice, go to www.disneyonice.com, or visit them on Facebook and YouTube.
