5 Fun, Cheap Things To Do This Week

By Angeline Sheridan July 10, 2014
1. Spend a (half) day on a farm. Our local favorites are Abma's in Wyckoff and Depiero's in Montvale - each has a small, free petting zoo, which is always a hit with the kids. For a great day trip, check out Alstede Farm in Chester, NJ this weekend for their Blueberry Festival.

2. Beat the heat with a free/cheep movie. See our local guide for a listing of free/cheap movies HERE, or check out some DVDs at your local library and plan a family movie night.

3. Enjoy music outdoors. Several towns have started their free summer concert series including Hillsdale, River Vale, Old Tappan, and Westwood

4. Ride your bikes or push your stroller through a new park. Our local hangouts include "Castle Park" in Haworth, Ruckman Park in Closter, Stone Point in Old Tappan, Highland Field in Harrington Park, and Westvale in Westwood.

5. Visit a zoo. Our local fave for young ones is the zoo at Van Saun in Paramus. A bit farther out (but worth the mileage) is Turtle Back Zoo in nearby West Orange. For older kids, nothing beats the Bronx Zoo (except maybe San Diego Zoo).
