Fall Fun at Lupardi's Nursery in Closter

A Macaroni Kid's Review

By Angeline Sheridan October 16, 2014
This past week, the little Macs and I visited Lupardi's Nursery to check out their live animals and other fall fun activities. Since it was a weekday, the nursery was quiet and the kids had the place to themselves. We were greeted by friendly staff who showed us around the farm. While most of the fall activities are only available during weekends, that didn't stop the kiddies from having a great time.

Check out a snippet of our visit:

Both my 2 year old and 5 year old loved feeding the animals at the petting zoo. For $3, the kids shared a large cup of feed, which the animals all clamored for.

We were delighted by the variety of animals at the petting zoo. There was a spitting llama - steer clear when its ears pull back!!! There was the "bully" cow, which liked to shove all the other animals away when there was food. A couple of sheep, young goats, and our personal favorites - the 3 little pigs. One of them is missing from this picture:

The kids also enjoyed the maze to find Snow White. The maze was challenging for my 2 year old daughter, but she was happy to walk the paths at her own pace. It didn't take long for my 5 year old to find Snow White, but he still enjoyed exploring all the different dead ends to find the dwarves. It was a great way to keep the kiddos corralled for 20 minutes without me worrying about one of them wandering off!

If you're looking for some local farm fun, Lupardi's a convenient stop especially during the week when it is not busy. On the weekends, there are more things to do including a haunted greenhouse ($2), which is NOT recommended for young children, a giant inflatable slide ($3) for children 42" or taller, and a tractor-pulled wagon hayride ($5) where you can pick up a sugar pumpkin ($4 extra). You can pay individually for each activity, or buy a wristband for $15, which includes a hayride, sugar pumpkin, large cup of feed, a donut and cider and unlimited slide rides.

Lupardi's Nursery has been family-owned and operated since 1947. It is located on 75 Blanch Avenue (near Spectrum Assited Living) in Closter and is open everyday. Fall Fun activities on Saturday and Sunday through November 2 is from 10AM to 5PM. For more information, call 201-768-0017.
