Last Chance to Enter! Infant/Child CPR Class at Englewood Hospital

A Macaroni Kid Review of the Family Birth Place and CPR Class Giveaway

By Angeline Sheridan February 26, 2015
In December 2014, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center finished renovating the Family Birth Place, which encompasses the Labor and Delivery Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Mother/Baby (postpartum) unit.

Family Birth Place Video Tour

I was recently invited to take a private tour of the newly designed Family Birth Place to see the upgrades. I knew what to expect: a state-of-the-art medical facility. What was surprising were the finishing touches that made the Family Birth Place a home away from home. I was impressed by the 24 modern private rooms in the Mother/Baby unit. The halls are tastefully decorated in soothing, earth-toned colors.

Beautiful photographs of newborns taken by local photographers adorn the walls.

Each room is equipped with a sleeper sofa for overnight guests, a spacious private bath, a flat screen television, and modern cabinetry to tuck away bedside care technology from plain sight.

A new well-baby nursery is tightly-monitored to allow new moms some time to rest and recover. I loved the look of the wooden baby beds shaped like sleighs, making it feel more like a home than a hospital.

The Family Birth Center is a Level 3 Perinatal Center, offering services to patients who require complex care. I had the pleasure of peeking into the NICU, where most of the 18 infant stations were occupied with the youngest arrivals. There are three antepartum rooms for monitoring high-risk care.

I was not able to tour the Labor and Delivery rooms as they were all occupied, but here's a snapshot of the redesigned waiting area.

I was told that the eight new private rooms in the Labor and Delivery Unit include infant resuscitation stations, private bathrooms and 75 percent more space than existing rooms. Seven hydrotherapy whirlpool tubs are available for moms who wish to have a more natural birth. For planned and emergency c-sections, two operating rooms are equipped with the latest technology.

The Family Birth Center offers families an outstanding facility to begin their new adventure into parenthood. With state-of-the-art medical technology and amenities such as room service, pre- and post-natal massages, yoga classes and valet parking that are reminiscent of an upscale hotel, I wouldn't be surprised if families frequently request a late check-out.
