A Howliday Treat: Peter & the Wolf with Isaac Mizrahi

A Macaroni Kid Review

December 9, 2016
My son and I were recently invited to experience Peter & the Wolf with Isaac Mizrahi at the Peter B. Lewis Theater in New York City. Conceived, directed and narrated by Isaac Mizrahi, Peter & the Wolf is an entertaining and beautiful modern interpretation of the classic tale of a boy and his quest to catch a dangerous wolf.

Growing up, I remember watching Disney's movie version of Peter & the Wolf and can still vividly recall the music, which was composed by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. This was my first time seeing Peter & the Wolf in the theater, and it was such a sensory treat I couldn't stop smiling throughout the performance.

Each character in the story - Peter, his grandfather, Duck, Cat, Hunter, Wolf and Bird - is represented by a different instrument. Mizrahi wittily narrates the story in between the music played by the fantastic Ensemble Signal.

The costumes, also designed by Mizrahi, are simple with subtle artistic flair.

Peter & the Wolf is a wonderful introduction to live theater and the orchestra for all ages. The intimate seating arrangement of the Peter B. Lewis Theater allows the whole audience to be fully immersed in the story and to enjoy the timeless music. It makes me want to come back and see it over and over again.

Peter & the Wolf with Isaac Mizrahi will be playing at the Peter B. Lewis Theater on December 9 at 5PM and 6:30PM and on December 10 and 11 at 2:30PM and 4PM. Tickets are available at worksandprocess.org or at the Box Office 212-423-3575.
