Major mall developer Simon Property Group announced phase two of its three-phase plan to renovate and modernize The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack today. The first phase, which is set to be completed this summer, involves redeveloping the section that once housed Saks Fifth Avenue into a dining and entertainment district, with an upscale AMC movie theater (complete with lounge and bar), the relocation of The Cheesecake Factory and other restaurants and specialty stores.

Phase two involves an interior and exterior facelift, including a grand Bohemian crystal chandelier and water feature near Louis Vuitton as well as a sculptural floating stair in the center court near Omega. There will be new tile flooring throughout the center, additional skylights, raised ceilings, and a new entrance with clean lines and a modern design. The second phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The third phase will feature a redevelopment of the south mall adjacent to Bloomingdale's, featuring a "luxury loop" and 35-foot ceilings, as well as a VIP lounge and concierge serve, valet parking and a renovated covered garage.

According to NJ.com, Simon has budgeted $2.1 billion to renovate 33 of its malls, including The Shops at Riverside.
