Four Things to Do In New York City This Holiday Season

By Angeline Sheridan December 11, 2019

It's the most wonderful time to live near New York City! Whether you have friends and family coming to visit or you're looking to be a tourist for a day, there is an abundance of things to see and do in the greatest city in the world. If you only had a day to visit, here are our top picks to check out this holiday season.

ELOISE AT THE PLAZA

🍵 As if Tea with Eloise isn't spectacular enough, you can have tea in the adorable Eloise shop with SANTA himself from now until December 29. Located in Eloise's home, the iconic Plaza Hotel, you'll need to make reservations for tea with Santa. No reservation? No problem - you can still shop at the Eloise Shop then grab a bite to eat at The Plaza's fantastic food hall on the same floor. For older kids who have outgrown Eloise, you can make a reservation for afternoon tea at The Palm at The Plaza. Be sure to take a picture of the stunning Tiffany-glass roof!

ICE SKATING

⛸ Grab your ice skates and enjoy the season at Bryant Park's ice skating rink. Admission is free if you have your own skates; skate rentals also available for an additional fee.  Elevate your skating experience by going to the Winterland Rink at The Rooftop at Pier 17, where you'll see spectacular views of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan Skyline.

ENJOY A BROADWAY (OR OFF-BROADWAY) SHOW

🎭 There are so many excellent Broadway shows to check out. You can't go wrong with favorites like The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, The Book of Mormon, and Hamilton. Off-Broadway shows like Gazillion Bubble Show for the young ones and Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief are also great options for kids under 12.

SHOP TILL YOU DROP

For the most unique gifts, shopping in New York City is a must. If you're already at Bryant Park, be sure to check out the Bryant Park Winter Village featuring unique shops and food stalls around the skating rink. At Rockefeller Center, stop by FAO Schwartz and American Girl's flagship store, a little girl's dream featuring a cafe, salon and shop.

GETTING THERE

🚢 The easiest way to get into the city, is by ferry at Port Imperial in Weehawken, then taking the free ferry bus, which follows popular spots including 57th Street, 49th Street, 42nd Street, and 34th Street, as well as a special Downtown loop.

🚘 You can also drive in. Be sure to download a parking app like Spot Hero to save time and money on finding garage parking.
