🇺🇸Ready to Run NJ: Campaign Training for Women at Rutgers University

By Angeline Sheridan March 9, 2020

Did you know that only 37 women serve in New Jersey's state legislature (29 Democrats and 8 Republicans), 30.8% of the 120 available seats? New Jersey ranks 21st among the 50 states in the proportion of women serving in its legislature. Women of color make up 51.4% of all women in the NJ legislature: 60% in the Senate, 48% in the Assembly. If you have always wanted to be more involved in politics or want to be a more effective advocate for a cause you care about, come to Rutgers University on March 20 and 21, to attend Ready to Run® New Jersey.

Ready to Run® is a national network of non-partisan campaign training programs committed to electing more women to public office. They will be holding a bipartisan conference at Rutgers University for all women in New Jersey interested in running for public office, working on campaigns, getting appointed to office or learning more about the political system. Ready to Run® New Jersey will be a two-day conference that offers two separate "tracks," depending on the interest of the attendees: Track 1 presentations are for those seeking to run for public office, and Track 2 presentations are for those not ready to run but would like more information about the New Jersey legislative process, or working for an advocacy organization or political campaign.

The conference agenda includes:

🇺🇸 Friday, March 20:  A Diversity Initiative program for women of color and those interested in diversity issues from 11:30AM to 4PM.  Tara Dowdell, President of Tara Dowdell Group, as the plenary speaker on best practices and practical tips on digital strategies for political and advocacy campaigns from 4:30PM-6:15PM.

🇺🇸 Saturday, March 21: Speakers include Cate Gormley, VP of Lake Research Partners on what women candidates need to know; Eva Pusateri, President and Founder of Expert Communications and Training, Inc. on key elements of a campaign; Jeanette Hoffman, President of Marathon Public Affairs on legislative advocacy; and Nancy Bocskor, Director of Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at Texas Woman's University on campaign fundraising.

Ready to Run® New Jersey will be held at the Douglas Student Center, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick March 20-21, 2020.  Conference fee is $195 and includes all conference meals and materials. To register and for more information, click HERE.
