New Story Seeds Podcast Offers Kid-Friendly Tips to Keep COVID-19 Away

By Angeline Sheridan March 11, 2020

By now your kids are probably asking you some questions about COVID-19. I know my 10 year old has been asking a few. It is important to share facts and information to your kids about preventive measures without causing them to feel anxious or alarmed.  A new kid and family-friendly podcast The Story Seeds Podcast, from Literary Safari recently released a bonus episode for kids ages 6-12 "Coronavirus PSA: How to Fight the New Bad Guy in Town" that does just that.

The episode offers eight simple ways to stay germ-free and how to make their own hand sanitizer at home. The four-minute public service announcement is narrated by Jason Reynolds, the 2020-2021 National Ambassador for  Young People's Literature and co-author of the new book Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You

"Every child learns differently and the power of a podcast is that it's like a little whisper that can go directly in your ear," says Sandhya Nankani, creator and executive producer of the The Story Seeds Podcast and a Northern Valley mom. "Jason Reynolds' voice is not riddled with the anxiety that so many adults are feeling right now, and —through the doorway of storytelling— he empowers kids with a real sense of agency, reminding them that they too can be superheroes everyday."

The Story Seeds Podcast celebrates the creativity of ALL children by modeling the magic that sparks when diverse authors and children collaborate to grow a child's story idea into an original story. Each episode chronicles a Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee type field trip between a child age 6-12 and author and a storytime segment. The show is hosted by kidlit maven and uber librarian, Betsy Bird, with theme music composed and performed by Andrew VanWyngarden, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/musician and co-founder of MGMT. Season One features award-winning and best-selling authors including Jason Reynolds, Dan Gutman, Aram Kim, Chris Grabenstein, and Carlos Hernandez.
