Northern Valley Public Libraries Participate in Pen Pal Letter-writing

By Angeline Sheridan February 20, 2021

The local public libraries in Closter, Demarest, Emerson, Harrington Park, Haworth, Northvale, and Old Tappan are reviving a traditional way of connecting with other residents in the community through matched letter-writing correspondences.

Here's how it works: sign up for the Pen Pal program HERE. Anyone can participate: adults, children, and teens.

The program will match participants with a random "pen pal". The library will provide a free pen pal kit with cards, envelopes, and a pen starting March 1. Plan to write three (3) letters to your pen pal by April 1. You can send funny stories, recipes, book recommendations as a fun way to "meet" someone new.  After the pandemic, there will be a Pen Pal Party to meet your pen pal in person.
