Sun's Out! Let's explore these playgrounds!

8 Best Playgrounds in Northern Pascack Valley

By Aree Cunningham April 30, 2022

With warmer days and sunshine, let's head outside to the parks! We have rounded up our favorite playgrounds, and parks in the Northern Pascack Valley (Northeast Bergen, NJ) area. Be sure to pack a good pair of shoes, snacks, and water! The kids might be there a while.

Clark Field - 2599 Cleveland Avenue, Township of Washington. Little kids will love this whimsical playground with a large climbing structure resembling a pirate ship, and a separate play structure in the shape of a fire truck! There are swings for both older and younger kids, plus plenty of room for kids to run around with ample shade. The playground is not fenced, but it is on a quiet street.

Highland Park - Tappan Road, Harrington Park. One of my favorites, this park has a fun playground with plenty of structures to climb, slide, and swing. Ther are red and green licorice-looking climbing walls, ropes, repellers, chain steps, mushroom caps, and rings. The playground is under shady trees with picnic tables, and the Merry-Go-Round climbing bar is always a hit with the kids, plus a see-saw! The park also has basketball courts, and a paved track through shady woods.

Kennedy Field - 453 Broadway, Norwood. The fenced-in playground has swings, slides, and climbing structures to keep the kids busy for hours. Kennedy Field playground is great for older and younger kids. Set under shady trees, it's great for younger kids and is adjacent to the one for older kids section, separated by a gated fence. There is also a basketball court next to the playground, as well as a paved track for walking, strolling, and biking. There is also a reflection pool to commemorate the veterans from the town.

Pondside Park - Blanch Avenue, Harrington Park. Pondside Park is a fenced-in playground with baby swings, slides, and monkey bars. There is a small pond where you can find geese, ducks, and other wildlife and a paved track around the pond for walking, biking, and strolling.

Ruckman Park - 185 Ruckman Road, Closter. This park has a big playground that kids of different ages can enjoy, as well as a paved track for older kids who want to ride their bikes or scooters. The tandem slide is not for the faint of heart! There are also basketball and tennis courts as well as a covered pavilion for shade and picnics. The park is set far back from the two main roads and has access to bathrooms in the summer.

Stone Point Park - Westwood Avenue, Old Tappan. Stone Point Park recently renovated its playground, and it's great for kids of all ages. The playground is fenced in with plenty of things to do for younger and older kids. There is a tall climbing playset that has two slides as well as a spinny, climbing structure that kids love. There is a plastic Merry-Go-Round with bucket seats and a smaller climbing playset. The park has basketball courts, a decent size skate park, and a covered pavilion for shade with a small paved track for walking, strolling, and biking!

Memorial Field Playground • Haworth, NJ • In Haworth park was known as “Castle Park,” where several wooden castle structures once stood but now stands a new, modern playground! There is a rock wall made out of actual solid rock, a mock treehouse-style ladder that reaches up to a higher level as well as a tree stump climber. It has three slides, one very tall double slide, one wavy slide, and one spiral. There is a zip-line, as well as a little frog to climb and sit on 🐸. A great shady park for a sunny day!

Westvale Park - 235 Harrington Avenue, Westwood. Westvale Park has a playground, and a paved track for walkers, runners, and bikers. It also has a covered pavilion, a fenced-in dog park, and a new area for working out. This park is especially great with an all-weather surface especially when it's damp out. There is a very steep slide and also a younger kids' ramp. Westvale is connected to Pascack Brook County Park which has a small pond for fishing as well as a smaller playground. The long paved track connecting both parks is great for kids learning to ride their bikes or scooters, as well as strollers.
