Macaroni Mom's Review: A Full Day with Thomas the Tank Engine

By Michelle Radice July 15, 2016
This past weekend, my family and I had the opportunity to experience A Day Out With Thomas with the Delaware River Railroad Excursions. A Day Out With Thomas was just that – a completely full day out! I was a little skeptical of taking the hour and a half long trip to Phillipsburg, NJ after learning the train ride was only 25 minutes long. But, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find a multitude of activities.

There was a food stand and a bounce house in the area by the ticket office, as well as a whole tented area set up with tables for eating and stands to purchase Thomas the Train-related items such as conductor hats, t-shirts, train tracks, etc.

As we walked down the hill to the train station, we can see there were many more activities to do:

While waiting in line to board the Thomas train ride, we got some food to hold us over and it was actually very good! Before boarding, kids and families had the opportunity to pose for a picture in front of “Thomas the Train”.

The train ride was just long enough to be interesting for the kids and short enough that they didn’t get restless. Each child received a special certificate during the ride.

After the Thomas train ride, we sat down under a tent and watched a great ventriloquist who used multiple animals in his act. Afterwards, we walked over to another tent and did some paint spin art, train stamp art, played with train tables and Legos.  We then returned back to the first tent for a juggling act show.  Both the ventriloquist and juggler were very interactive with the kids and audience.  My kids all got to participate and I was able to get some great video clips!  We got to take a picture with Sir Topham Hat, play corn hole, mini golf and visit a small petting zoo as well.

There really was so much to do at A Day Out With Thomas, and it was truly “a day out.” We arrived at 2:15PM, our train ride was at 3:00PM, and we left at 5:15PM.  All three of my kids, ages 8, 7, and 3 thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and, admittedly, so did mom and dad.  I would definitely recommend A Day Out With Thomas - it is fun for all ages.
